Natural Building Technologies’ Diffutherm woodfibre insulation system has received BBA accreditation for both masonry and timber frame constructions. NBT Diffutherm has become the first solid, unvented, rendered timber frame solution to receive BBA certification, with the product’s breathability being a key factor in its success.
It’s certification follows extensive testing by the BBA and provides official recognition of the product’s performance, which, along with cost, speed of build and environmental impact, delivers significant advantages over other rendered timber frame methods.
NBT Diffutherm systems feature 60mm, 80mm or 100mm thick natural woodfibre insulation boards applied over the outside of a masonry substrate or timber frame structure, with an external finish of a mineral-based, breathable render. In a timber frame system, additional compatible insulation would be installed between the studs and racking board fixed on the inside of the frame.
Delivering excellent thermal performance and very low thermal bridging, NBT Diffutherm is highly vapour open and hygroscopic, ensuring it is fully breathable. This minimises the risk of damp and the formation of interstitial condensation, providing protection to the building fabric and contributing to healthier internal air quality.
Designed to deliver excellent airtightness, NBT Diffutherm also provides good acoustic insulation and effective overheating control. NBT Diffutherm systems are suitable for either new build or refurbishment applications.
NBT natural woodfibre Diffutherm boards are manufactured from 95% recycled wood waste from FSC certified sources and lock up 1.2 tonnes of CO2 for every tonne of boards produced. The interlocking boards are 1,300mm x 790mm in size and are available in thicknesses of 60mm, 80mm or 100mm.
