Natural Building Technologies (NBT) launched its range of HempWood Batt insulation at Ecobuild. New to the UK market, the hemp/wood combination is the latest in semi-rigid batt insulation, offering the highest levels of thermal efficiency, breathability and environmental credentials.
NBT HempWood Batts are ideally suited for use within timber frame structures, in loft spaces, between rafters and in walls and floors in new build and renovation/conservation projects. When properly installed, NBT HempWood will retain its performance for the life of the building.
The batts’ high density (50kg/m3) and specific heat capacity (1,700J/kg.K) means that they have a higher thermal mass than many other insulation products. The NBT HempWood Batts also offer excellent levels of thermal conductivity (0.038 W/mK).
In addition to the thermal and acoustic credentials, the new batts can also contribute to the health of the building, and therefore the health of the building’s occupants, by absorbing and releasing moisture without degrading.
Neil May, Managing Director of NBT, said: “At NBT we continually strive to offer the widest range of genuinely sustainable building products which can be incorporated into complete building solutions. The HempWood Batts are the next generation of natural insulations and, as the UK’s leading supplier, we are excited about introducing them to the building products sector.”
NBT HempWood hemp and wood fibre batts comprise 55% wood fibre, 30% hemp fibre and 15% thermoplastic binder. Naturally durable, NBT HempWood Batts offer excellent slump resistance - delivering a tight fit. Resistant by nature to insect, biological or vermin attack, the batts are non-toxic, non-hazardous and irritant free and are safe to handle without protective clothing.
