Sustainable building products specialist, Natural Building Technologies (NBT) has extended its ThermoPlan Ziegel range of innovative thin bed, solid wall building solutions to include the most thermally efficient system to date. Like the systems in NBT’s existing ThermoPlan range, it is fully breathable and offers faster build times than any other block-based building system on the market.
The latest addition to the ThermoPlan range offers improved levels of thermal efficiency with a K-value of just 0.09 and U-values as low as 0.20 W/m2K at 425mm depth. As with other ThermoPlan systems, the new block also offers an exceptionally low Y-value for non-repeating thermal bridges of just 0.04W/m2K.
All systems in the ThermoPlan Ziegel range are based on high performance, environmentally sound sustainable blocks that are manufactured using a clay-based material, specially formulated to produce a strong, micro-porous structure. Suitable for almost any residential or non-residential building type up to five storeys high, the load-bearing system can be used to construct internal and external walls, either on its own or in the form of infill panels in steel or concrete frame buildings.
NBT’s ThermoPlan range has been designed as a thin bed construction solution, offering exceptionally fast build times. This is due to the clay-based blocks only requiring 1mm bed joints and featuring dry interlocking vertical joints, significantly reducing drying out time. As a result, there is no risk of shrinkage and, therefore, no limit on how much of a building can be constructed in one day.
The advanced structure of the ThermoPlan blocks, combined with vertical perforations extruded during the manufacturing process, makes these systems very thermally efficient and minimises cold bridging as evidenced by the very low Y-values. It also ensures that buildings constructed using these systems can be very airtight and offer excellent acoustic properties and fire resistance. In addition, the systems are fully breathable, which ensures water vapour does not get trapped in the building’s structure, eliminating the risk of internal or interstitial condensation.
Systems in the ThermoPlan range include ThermoPlan Render, ThermoPlan Clad, ThermoPlan Plus and ThermoPlan Plus Clad, each of which offer different levels of thermal efficiency and exterior finish options.
